Today, I woke up again with a heavy burden in my heart for my church once again. Week after week, it is increasingly becoming dry. There is a lack of an inner life and the outworkings of the Holy Spirit. People come to church, not to seek after God, but to seek a satisfaction for themselves, be it in friendship with others or to organising activities and feeling good about the things that they do in church.

My heart griefs for how the gospel is being prostituted by people who call themselves Christians, whether they are christians in the first place or not. My heart griefs for how God is the least sought after thing in church, but rather methods on how to do stuff in life.

Today, I was reading this section in the book of Lamentations. I found a passage that gave me so much comfort. I pray that this passage may be used to give similar comfort to all in distress.

Lamentations 3: 13 – 33:

This song happens to be my handphone ringtone. Sharene was in deep grief and needed comfort and assurance from a difficult situation. While we were praying together, my brother called me and as I didn’t pick up the call, this song began to play. The first few words began: “All things work for our good. Though sometimes we don’t see how they could…

There will be little else we will want in heaven besides Jesus
Christ– He will be our bread, our food, our beauty, and our
glorious garment. The atmosphere of heaven will be Christ;
everything in heaven will be Christlike: yes, Christ is the
heaven of His people. -Spurgeon

Psalm 73:25-26:

‘Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.’

We came to this world as infants with nothing. We will depart from this world with nothing. Nothing but God alone. Whom do we have in heaven, but God, alone.

Whatever we desire on this earth cannot give us true lasting enjoyment. The enjoyments on earth only last for but a while and fade away. At our death, all these enjoyments will be no more. All forms of enjoyment will be no more, but God alone.

Nothing is worthy to be desire on earth but God alone, for He can give us everlasting enjoyment. In health or in sickness, in joy or in sorrow, in pleasure or in pain, in life or in death, God is enough for our souls to be fully satisfied.

Though our flesh and my heart may fail,  God will sustain us. He is the strength of our hearts. He renews us daily.  He is the only one who can fill us and satisfy our souls. He is our portion forever.

God alone is enough.

I thank God for today, for it was a blessed day, especially in church. During the pastoral prayer, I heard a mention of a portion of scripture and God spoke powerfully through it to me throughout the entire day. The pastor said something along the lines of “We thank you Lord for while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.

It came from Romans 5:8 – ‘But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.’

The word that I was drawn to was the word ‘yet‘. Previously, I had read the verse as ‘when we were still sinners’, Christ died for us. But today, light was shed upon the word ‘yet’ that it gave me a new perception of this particular verse. Read the rest of this entry »

My Life’s Verse

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by Faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me. Galatians 2:20
